About my classroom

I teach at a high school in North Carolina. Our school was one of the largest in the county, but now we are one of the smaller. Our EL population around 10% of our school and the majority of our ELLs are Spanish speaking. Because our district is growing, I have my own full-sized classroom. No modesty needed here because it is the best classroom in the school. I teach ELL beginners, ELL intermediate, EL high school success, and a variety of ELL electives.

Strategies for creating a language-rich secondary classroom.

I was asked to present on this topic, and I wanted to make sure I shared this resource here. I was excited to try the new pageless Google Docs for this presentation instead of my go-to slides. Click on the link below to access this presentation and find some free and fast tips to increasing the language in your classroom.

This is a growing site to help encourage others. As my lessons and curriculum grows, so will this site.

About me

I am a tenth year teacher in North Carolina. I started my career as a secondary English teacher, but I have been fortunate enough to be a Teacher Assistant, a Yes Center Coordinator, an elementary EC teacher, and now an ELL teacher. I love this work, and I love working with my "kiddos."

When I started my ELL journey, I was passionate and lost. Where should one start? I was in my Masters program for TESOL, but I needed answers now! I searched the web and found some support, but creating a plan, a curriculum, and facilitating meaningful language acquisition ... I am still forging those paths.

So, I wanted to make this space. I place where I can share my plans, my success, and my failures. If you are struggling for ideas, this is the place for you.
